History of Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo Automobiles S.p.A., sometimes referred to simply as "Alfa", the Italian manufacturer of cars. Founded as a A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) in Milan, the company began to participate in road racing in 1911 and immediately became known as a manufacturer of luxury sports cars in June 1910. The owner of the factory was the Italian state company Istituto per la Ricostruzione Industriale from 1932 until 1986, after which the factory became part of the Fiat group.

The first car produced by the company called 1910 24 HP, designed by Giuseppe Merosi. A.L.F.A. this model began to participate in motor racing, the racers Franchini and Ronzoni competing in 1911 on two 24 HP. In August 1915 the company came under the control of Naples entrepreneur Nicola Romeo, who translated the factory for the production of military technology and equipment. In 1920 the company name was changed to Alfa Romeo and model Torpedo 20-30 HP was the first car with this name on the nameplate.

With the departure of Nicola Romeo in 1928, Alfa has lost defense contracts and the factories started having problems. But in 1932 the company Alfa Romeo saves the government of Benito Mussolini.

After World War II the company is battling the massive market for small cars. In 1954, the company is a classic engine from Alfa Romeo - Twin Cam, which will be produced until 1995. During the 60s and 70s Alfa Romeo produces a large amount of expensive sports cars, but despite this the Italian Government, wishing to obtain reasonable profit, the company sells the Fiat Group in 1986.

Alfa Romeo is involved in a variety of motorsport events, particularly in Grand Prix motor racing, Formula 1, sports car racing, touring and rally. The first victory in the Grand Prix racing cars Alfa won in 1925. The company has earned a name in motorsport and it left its mark on all the cars of this brand. Enzo Ferrari founded the Scuderia Ferrari racing team in 1929 just as the "Alfa Romeo", before becoming an independent team in 1939.
